LOWER AND MIDDLE WABASH WATERSHED DISCOVERY

On behalf of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS), working in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, has begun the Discovery Process for the Middle Wabash-Busseron and Lower Wabash Watersheds.

Three Discovery Meeting were hosted by the University of Illinois Extension at Paris, Robinson, and Mt. Carmel, Illinois, in July 2011. Three Discovery Meetings were also held in Indiana.

As part of FEMA’s Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) program, the ISWS will be working with communities across the Wabash River watersheds to develop a more accurate understanding of their flood risk.

The Discovery process is the first step in determining whether a Risk MAP project is needed within your watershed. The information exchanged between ISWS and the communities within your watershed during Discovery will improve our understanding of your flood hazard mapping, flood risk, mitigation planning, and communication needs.
